Powerguard off-grid power system installed in the historic Duke of Portland Boathouse on Ullswater

Location, location, location is always the main criteria when booking a holiday and this unique Cumbrian cottage has a location to "die for"!!

All electricity is off grid and is supplied by the unique fully integrated Powerguard PS System powered by LPG.  This was carefully installed under the boathouse by Power Systems Warehouse. The LPG generator was specially chosen because restrictions on lake pollution meant that a diesel generator could not be used.  

The Duke of Portland Boathouse provides not only a unique location, sitting directly on the north eastern tip of Lake Ullswater with superb views across the Lake towards Ullswater Marina and the fells above but has been lavishly furnished to provide an ideal honeymoon/romantic Lake District cottage for those seeking to indulge themselves at any time of the year.

The setting is poetic. Wordsworth called Ullswater "the happiest combination of beauty and grandeur, which any of the lakes affords", and the boathouse has been the subject of many paintings and postcards.

It originally belonged to the 3rd Duke of Portland (1738-1809), but he became involved in a nine-year legal battle with Sir James Lowther over lands in Carlisle they both claimed, and had to sell his Cumbrian assets to save himself from bankruptcy.

The owner has completely refurbished the boathouse in a most distinctive style, using her experience as an interior designer to its full benefit. So striking is the interior design that it has been featured in the Cumbria Life magazine. The boathouse itself is reported to be the most photographed building in Great Britain.
